A certified
nurse-midwife (CNM) is a health care provider educated in
the two disciplines of nursing and midwifery. CNMs provide
care to women throughout the lifespan. Nurse-midwives have
a special interest in providing time for questions and helping
you to make informed choices about your care.
We recognize that each woman and family is unique. We recognize
each woman's right to self-determination, privacy, and human
dignity. Our focus is the promotion and preservation of health
and the prevention of complications. We accomplish this using
many tools, including health screening and education, encouraging
active participation of women in decision-making, and attending
to emotional and social needs of women as well as to their
physical needs. We believe that pregnancy and birth are natural
and healthy processes for the majority of women and babies.
We welcome the arrival of each baby in a caring and loving
manner. We recognize pregnancy as a special time in a woman's
life, and offer our support to families so that they may not
only have a satisfying experience, but ideally an experience
of personal growth. We recognize that the birth experience
can have a life-long impact on a woman's self-esteem, her
health, and the health of the family unit.
We respect the value of technology, particularly for women
whose pregnancies and care are considered "high risk."
We are committed to developing a personalized plan of care
and assisting women to enjoy a sense of normalcy and pride
at the time of birth and throughout the lifespan. We believe
that timely consultation, collaboration, and referral to further
medical care as needed are fundamental for the safety and
satisfaction of our clients.
